COME ON PEOPLE...IF THERE IS ONE AMAZING THING YOU CAN DO TO FINISH THIS RUBBISH YEAR ON A HIGH...THIS IS IT!

5 years ago I met Mama Dorcas and then spent a month at the Meta Meta orphanage in the Kangemi slum in Nairobi. While there is so much to write about her, I will keep it brief. She has taken in 60+ orphans over the years into a rented informal settlement and cared for them: from new born babies abandoned in the local market to kids who lost their parents to AIDs.

She's dedicated her whole life to these amazing kids with very little support, and has created a big family, trying to raise money to feed and educate them where she can. The orphanage is informal, so it relies on local support (which is non existent), which means it is basically a 'hand to mouth' situation and scraping together the $400 monthly rent and constantly facing eviction is taking its toll (on Mama's health and the kids). Heavy rains in December also means they now have few dry places to sleep and it's time to get our act together and build this amazing team a home.

Mama Dorcas has been given some land in Kisumu in Kenya, we have building plans (see pics) to built a minimum 6 bedroom orphanage for them (and classroom space), they can also then be almost self sufficient by growing food on the land (as they have been doing on their Nairobi plot too), and we can continue to send the kids to school. We need £35,000 to buy materials and build the house.
