Weʼve raised £220 to Fund HSCT treatment for Multiple Sclerosis in Mexico 2017

Funded on Friday, 24th March 2017

    Story

As some of you may or may not know I was diagnosed with Relaxing Remitting Multiple Sclerosis in 2013. My symptoms, which had initially started some years earlier as pins and needles in the fingers of the righthand side of my body have slowly and steadily progressed to experiencing daily and variable numbness to the right hand side of my body, daily electrical shocks down my spinal cord, and MS related fatigue.

These symptoms began to further decline in January 2016, and on research of options with the consultant and MS nurses regarding further treatment, the only apparent choice of managing this MS beast is through expensive (£30k pa) nasty drugs with known side effects, with no guarantee of holding this disease, but certain knowledge this will progress to take my mobility, livelihood and quality of life.

I am a stubborn f*&k (as many know!) not prepared to see how things pan out, and have committed to undergo challenging HSCT treatment, in an attempt to halt (not cure) the progression of this monster of MS overseas in January 2017 in Mexico. HSCT is a proven treatment offering a unique combination of chemotherapy and my own stem cells to reboot my immune system, and assist it in attacking the effects of MS.

HSCT has been carried out in specialist centres across the world for over 15 years, and proven to be effective for the many patients who have undergone this treatment, and those with significant disability, have seen a dramatic improvement in their quality of life.

HSCT is available in London under the NHS, but in cash strapped times there are strict criteria before you can qualify for treatment in the UK, for which I do not qualify.

The costs of this treatment are going to be considerable and in excess of £50,000 which is a vast sum and all support, will be greatly appreciated for fundraising activities, donations, etc. Thinking a charity skydive is definite must!

Thanks a million - second thoughts - £50k will do nicely!
