Story
I am running the Birmingham International Marathon this year, my one (and only!) attempt. To mark this unique occasion, I will be aiming to raise as much money as possible for Freddie's Fight.
I am sure like me, everyone was touched by the Bradley Lowery story this year. When my colleague Katy Derbyshire told me that a little boy known to her family had been diagnosed with the same devastating illness, I agreed I would run the Marathon for the little man and his family.
Freddie is currently in Birmingham Children's Ward undergoing further tests and receiving Chemotherapy. He is coping so well and has been very brave. Freddie's parents Gaz & Jemma have been devastated by the news. Hopefully Freddie will be able to come home soon but will have to make trips back to hospital every 10 days or so for his chemotherapy/treatments which could take 12 months. I’m sure everyone understands how their lives have just been turned upside down right now so this is a way everyone can help in a practical way if they wish to. Gaz & Jemma have been completely blown away by the love and support shown to Freddie and them.
The people local to Norton Canes, the village were Freddie is from have been unbelievable and rallied round with offers of support, donations and arranged fundraising events which will be going on over the coming weeks. We are raising money to offer Freddie and his parents practical financial support to help during hospitalisation and whatever is left will go towards a fantastic family holiday once treatment is finished and Freddie is well enough to travel.
I have been doing some gruelling training runs in the last few weeks, up to 22 miles - at times I have thought of quitting, but now I know they are NOTHING compared to the fight Freddie is facing. ANY donation you can make no matter how small will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks for your support.

7 years agoWell thank God that's over!! It was a great day but very tough, a combination of the heat, my age and getting cramp at mile 20 didn't help! I managed to shuffle over the line in 4hrs 21mins which wasn't as good as I had hoped but I'm still happy to have got round. I've really enjoyed the whole experience - from signing up on Jan 1st, all the training right through to the event itself. Thanks to everyone who has supported Freddie's Fight so far - hopefully the funds can help to make a difference to the little man and his family.

7 years agoThe big day is almost here!! I'm taking it easy today and drinking plenty of water and carb loading! Looks like it's going to be warm tomorrow but looking forward to it! A big thank you to everyone who has donated so far, as things stand I am just £50.00 short of my £1000.00 target!! To those who haven't, it's not too late - let's smash the target for Freddie's Fight!! Good look to those who are running for Freddie's Fight tomorrow - indeed to all runners, and particularly those who are fundraising for all sorts of worthy causes! Michael

On 15th October 2017 I will be running the Birmingham International Marathon. I am fundraising for Freddie's Fight as detailed on this page. My training is all but done thankfully so all I need now are some donations to give me that final bit of inspiration for the big day!!
