On April 26/04/2017 at around 11pm Michaele Haile was shot and killed in his apartment by Police Officers in the city of Essen responding to a simple noise complaint.

Michaele was a refugee who came to Germany over 4 years ago from Eritrea and lived a peaceful quiet life among the Eritrean community in Essen.

He was a well-liked and friendly person who enjoyed spending time with his friends and following football which was a lifelong passion of his. His loss is a massive tragedy for the family especially as we do not feel he should have died at the hands of the Police.

The facts of the shooting are yet to be properly communicated and legal advice is being sought by the family to get to the truth of the matter.

So far, the German public prosecutor’s office has been informed and a decision is pending on what further actions will be taken from them.

We as his family are seeking to raise funds for Michaele’s return to Eritrea to be laid to rest in our family burial gardens. The family also intends to use whatever money is raised to pursue justice for Michaele and determine from the police why they had to use lethal force on him.
