I met Martin 17 years ago on the Badminton Courts - he was like a dynamo, full of energy and hardly ever lost a game. A few years later he become unwell - numb fingers and toes, no energy and to cut a long story short he was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis - this has had a devastating effect on Martin his wife Jo and their 4 children. Three years ago Martin lost the use of his legs and became wheelchair bound and reliant on carers as Jo still has to work to support the family. This year Martin heard about BBC correspondent Caroline Wyatt who had flown out to Mexico for pioneering stem cell treatment which has transformed her life - after alot of thought Martin decided he would have to try it for himself (as his only hope of stopping his MS) the cost of this treatment doesnt come cheap - £60,000.00 (& is not available in the UK) so after re-mortgaging his house his friends have set about fundraising with quizzes, fashion shows etc. Those of you who know me appreciate my love of sport and exercise so myself and friend Strawbs have entered 'The South Coast Challenge' on 27th August 2017 which is 100 k walk (or 62 miles !!) in a day - it'll be tough to say the least and I will probably need to borrow Martins wheelchair at the end.
