My name is Darren Carruthers I have been lucky enough to have been selected for the Special Olympic World Games which will be held in Abu Dhabi in March 2019. I started running when i was 11 years old and over the years i have been very successful. I have been extremely lucky to be selected for 2 special olympic summer games in Bath and laterly in Sheffieild in 2017 where i won a gold, 2 silver and a bronze. I have also had an opportunity to compete at the European Youth games in Gothenburg. I work really hard competing for 2 clubs training up to 4 nights per nights per week and taking part in 5/10k races at the weekend. I compete regularly at a regional and national level for my clubs. Having a learning disability means that i am not afforded the same opportunities as other people and as a result i need to work really hard. We also need to raise all the funds to travel to Abu Dhabi and i would appreciate all the help that people can give me. This is an opportunity of a lifetime and i will work really hard to make everyone and myself proud.
