This is your opportunity to help three inspirational charities achieve awareness and funds by supporting me with the pinnacle of my riding career. I have the opportunity to do what some people can only dream about - competing for Great Britain in the Mongol Derby, dubbed the toughest, longest horse race in the world. Combining elite equestrian and survival skills, only a handful of international riders are selected each year to try their luck in this extraordinary event - and the fact I am achieving this in my twenties is unusual.
Set over 1,000km across Mongolia, riders have about a week to navigate themselves between various checkpoints along the historical postal route Genghis Khan created, on semi-wild Mongolian horses. Professional riders are levelled with amateur adrenaline junkies in what can only be described as the most unique combination of tact, mental grit, physical stamina and fortune in the quest to call themselves a Mongol Derby finisher. Relying on Nomadic Mongolian cuisine and hospitality, your life changes overnight in order to adapt and rely on the knowledge of these people who have doted on the horse for centuries in order to survive.
This is the ultimate event to encourage people to sponsor me to provide three charities the funds they need to continue their vital work in three aspects. One charity has already been announced: Dysautonomia International have provided support and information for all patients of autonomic nervous system failure, as with myself; there will also be a global charity and an equine charity to be established in due course.
Thanks to the aid of LegUpforTalent, I have felt empowered as a young, amateur rider to approach companies personal to me in helping me fund the entrance fee for the event, but I will be purchasing all equipment and flights myself. I cannot thank the scheme and Diana Anselm enough for making me a regional star - their support has been so valuable for this 'Against All Odds' competitor.
