Movember - C.A.L.M & The Space

At the Space we're are all about growth, giving and the occasional sacrifice.

So this November, we're joining the Movember movement: growing a moustache; giving ourselves a challenge and; (in one case) sacrificing his 'stache.

From the 1st of November, the male members of our management team (Artistic Director, Adam Hemming and Deputy Director, Matthew Jameson) will spend the month pushing and straining our hardest to grow moustaches and facial hair. A challenge for Adam, who prefers a mild stubble, and an unthinkable act for Matthew, a very hairy man and proud sporter of a moustache since 2016, who has agreed to start from scratch for a good cause. We won't be able to shave them until the beginning of December and once a week over the course of November, with the help of our team of volunteers we will be styling our beards to make Glitter, Christmas and Rainbow beards, being joined by our Bar/Kitchen Manager David Baldwin.

As Movember is all about raising awareness of Men's Health issues, we are raising money for C.A.L.M (The Campaign Against Living Miserably), who are dedicated to the prevention of and providing support/resources for the biggest killer of men under 45, suicide.

The Space (St Pauls Arts Trust) is a grade II listed building, an arts centre and registered charity. Situated in a converted church in the Isle of Dogs that for the last 23 years has supported and welcomed members of the local community, provided a platform for new and emerging artists and committed to artist development while providing high-quality, accessible and affordable theatre. As with many organisations, recent funding cuts and economic instability means that we are seeking support to help cover our core costs and to fund our development as a venue. As such any proceeds from this fundraiser will be split 50/50 between the Space and C.A.L.M.

The reason that we have set a target for £1,000 is that Matthew has agreed to completely shave his head (grade 0) if over £1,000 is raised over the course of this fundraiser. If however we raise £2,000+ Adam has agreed to join him. Let's make them regret it!
