Story
Dear Friends,
Thank you for visiting our Just Giving page
We are a family of Ugandan and Kenyan Asians who have been living in the UK for some years.
In April we returned to Uganda after an absence of 45 years. During the trip we visited the Mengo Youth Development Link (MYDEL) which is an organisation based in Kampala. MYDEL was started in 2001 and focuses its programs on the most vulnerable children and youths from the slum community in Kampala most of whom being school dropouts and orphans.
The centre accommodates a limited number of children and these have to be enrolled out after Foundation Level 5 (11 years old) to allow space for the younger children to be helped. Mengo Children Development Centre remains with a non-satisfying solution of graduating these orphans and vulnerable children back to the poor community with only the knowledge of speaking English and with no hands-on skill to support them in their next life out of the development centre. This leaves the children vulnerable again and with a possibility of returning back to the streets or being subjected to labour and sexual exploitation.
The centre has set-up vocational courses like tailoring, hairdressing, bakery, art and craft, construction and urban farming among others that would help the children support themselves after their time at MYDEL and urgently needs equipment.

Plan
The plan is to raise £9000 to help buy sewing machines, hand dryers, computer equipment, baking equipment and materials, and carpentry\joiner equipment.
We believe we can make a huge difference to the lives of these vulnerable children. In order to make this difference we need your help.
Any contribution is much appreciated.
Thank you for reading.
