    Story

Myles up to around 4 years old was active Healthy Active and loved to do new adventurous things. After noticing difficulties with balance co-ordination and shortness of breath. we started to ask school and health practitioners to look for any complications as was becoming more apparent and affecting his ability to live a normal life. after 3 years of pushing being told he will grow out of it "Clumsy". we hoped they were right

Finally, on 15th January 2020 the devastating diagnosis of Friedrichs Ataxia a rare genetic disease that causes loss of ability in walking, a loss of sensation in the arms and legs, and impaired speech. It’s also known as spinocerebellar degeneration. This horrible disease causes damage to parts of his brain and spinal cord, and his heart over time.

Since that devastating day, we have been trying to get used to a new way of living, squeezing as much experiences in as we can with Myles. Adapting as his condition gets progressively worse and the visits to Alder Hey and the different departments increase. each time hoping his condition remains the same with no progression. Myles is 10 yrs old on 21st January and his awareness of his condition is more apparent in school and at home with No future "googling life expectancy of 30", needing therapeutic support for mental health and his increased isolation from friends and even family activities that he can longer participate due to his body not working properly. as a family we are trying all we can to give him experiences and ability to enjoy outside life.

Myles now needs his wheel chair for school and life. and we have been using the NHS provided Wheelchair which can only be used inside buildings is incredibly difficult to use on pavements and impossible for any bumpy or natural surfaces outside. meaning that we can no longer take Myles anywhere outside unless the surfaces are flat. Myles has no chance of wheeling himself with any autonomy.

The Cost of Wheelchairs that can provide any quality of life for Myles are similar to prices of small cars, which is impossible for a family like ours who have to pay for alterations to house, life, work to adapt to his needs as we progress. However the quality of life we need to try offer Myles and allow him to experience is our priority, We believe he should not be locked away isolated disabled from life because of his condition we need to instil hope and positivity and a future to look forward with resilience.

We have found a wheelchair Cleo Ti with accessories as Myles grows and complications worsen, however the cost is £6740 which funders are not able to fund completely. We are now looking to pay for motor wheels as we have smashed the original milestone of £6500 The extra cost will be £4200 if we are to be able to give Myles any quality of seeing life outside we need to be able to raise as much as we can in the hope that funders may provide the rest.

Please if you are able to help Myles and give him some opportunity to experience the opportunities of independance and participation, This may help with his hope for a future where he is not excluded and can enjoy the experiences we take for granted with family and friends in his life.

Please, please, please share with as many people, businesses charities. via email, social media, etc anyone who may help us get closer to our target. it really will make the difference in his life. Lets not make Myles life anonymous and isolated away.

So, we have now, been assessed, and Alder Hey advised myles needs propelled motor. We do not want him to just stop using arms and get lazy so joystick not an option. We tried motorised emotion wheels for £5000 too heavy. The Smoov was compact wheel at back and by far the best at £4600. So aiming to achieve the £10,000+ we also played the bike atrachment perfect for rough terrain at £2600 but not practical for school/home etc. We have some decisions to make Pleaze continue to share as far and wide as possible.
