Every year 16,000 new cases of kidney failure are registered across Pakistan and many of the patients die because the government lacks the capacity and resources to provide costly dialysis treatment to them. After retiring from Greater Manchester Police I wanted to help the poor and needy. I looked at a number of projects and decided to open a dialysis centre in a location where patients were having to travel over 50 miles to a town where they could receive treatment. many poor people couldn't even afford the travel cost, never mind the treatment cost. Four of my friends and I got together and opened the first free Dialysis clinic in Gujar Khan Pakistan.

We bought the latest medical equipment and equipped the centre ready to deliver treatment this year.

The project is currently funded by ourselves and as such we have limited capacity. We currently have four dialysis machines and treat eight patients daily, all are poor and without this facility they would not have been able to get treatment for their condition.

I am now raising funds to ensure we are able to develop the centre further and increase the number of patients treated.

Helping others has given me a real sense of humility, knowing that my donations have gone directly to the needy has inspired me and others to strive further to help the poor.

With this in mind I have decided to trek the Himalayas this month to raise funds for the centre. I intend to trek to K2 base camp and hope my story has inspired you to make a donation towards helping the poor to continue receiving free dialysis treatment.
