Weʼre raising £50,000 to Transport clothing and daily essentials to the villagers of Khwai in Botswana
Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered nonprofit.
The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.
Botswana is dominated by the Kalahari Desert, the Great Thirstland, and is a country larger than France but with only 2 million people.
Khwai a small village of approximately 500 BaBukakhwe or River Bushmen (a section of Basarwa or San Bushmen) located just outside Moremi Game Reserve on the edge of the Okavango Delta. The people of Khwai live in thatched mud huts and their usual daily battles are with elephant invading crops, leopard taking children at night from within huts and obtaining fresh water in a culture where uneducated, unmarried mothers are the norm and AIDS decimates their lives.
The villages of Tsodilo and XaiXai in the NW of the Kalahari are each about 500 Juhoansi San and Hambukushu cultures with the same daily problems. AIDS affects 25% of people.
All have been decimated by the effects of Covid halting the safari sector, Botswana’s second most valuable trade.
In 2016 Botswana had deep drought killing cattle, goats and game. At the beginning of 2017 it had its biggest storm, Dineo, in 50 years causing widespread flooding, followed by some of the harshest droughts in decades making the few permanent rivers in the Okavango Delta perilously low. Early this year Storm Eloise struck with massive floods again. Now, they have drought once again and. The people of Khwai had very little and now have even less. Malaria adds to their woes. They need our help at the most basic level.
Over the past few years FuelDefendGlobal has collected 10 tons of clothes, blankets, toys, household goods for the villages to support the Naletsana Charity headed by Maria and Sandra, two hard working women juggling a career in tourism, bringing up a family and dedicating huge amounts of time to help the people of Khwai. Two half containers are brimming with donations
We now need to transport two containers to NW Botswana and convert them to working offices and stores to start the “Rewards for Achievements” programme whereby local folk earn donations by demonstrating achievements, big and small. Working with local village councils the needy and destitute will be incldued in the programme. All donations will be handed out personally. Funds will be soent to purchase an old 4x4 and trailer, extend the new pre-school teaching hours and range of activities, arrange school trips, engage adults, develop new hands-on and commercial skills, provide basic IT and much much more.
Personal and corporate donations will be gratefully received and acknowledged by villagers. Please contact KhwaiVillage@FuelDefend.com to help, or press GIVE NOW to make a donation immediately.
These people live in conditions in normal times that we cannot contemplate. The floods have exacerbated their problems, yet they keep their humour and simply push on as best they can. Mma Bogwasi, top left, jokes she cannot afford panties! ST had to fight off a hippo from the nearby river when it attacked her mother trying to protect few remaining crops. WPC Kgosi usually walks the village, but now must boat her way through. More than ever hippo, lions and elephants trouble the villagers.
Very sadly, Maria died of cancer last month, leaving behind a distraught husband and two young daughters. Sandra and the team at FDG are more determined than ever to make Naletsana a success.

FuelDefend did a lot of work collecting and storing the donations. This work should not be wasted and we're very keen to finish what we've started.
