Story
In July, I'll be joining a volunteer project to work with children in some of the poorest rural villages in Fiji for a month.
Schools in remote areas of Fiji have a severe lack of teachers and teaching resources and many families struggle to meet their daily needs. A cyclone, in February last year left over 200 schools damaged or destroyed entirely.
1/3 of children in rural Fiji live below the poverty line and 75% do not have access to fresh water.
I will be volunteering with Think Pacific Foundation who are a Fijian Charity which supports thousands of Fijian children in the poorest areas. My time in Fiji will consist of providing education to children as a teaching assistant whilst providing sports coaching after school. I will move in with a Fijian family and become part of their community.
Money raised will go directly to the local communities in the form of school resources, stationary, books, sports education and teacher training for the locals.
Please note I will be funding my own travel to and from Fiji, my insurance, visa and injections also.
Although its exciting to see the country, this is not a holiday and I hope to make a positive contribution to the local communities. So any donations given I am extremely grateful for.
Thank you.
