Weʼve raised £120 to Support local sexual violence charity SV2 based in Derbyshire

Funded on Friday, 18th August 2017

    What is crowdfunding?

Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered nonprofit.

The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.

    Story

This year I've entered the Great North Run for the 2nd time. Whilst I know what to expect, it'll be as much as a challenge as when I did it the first time.

You maybe haven't heard of SV2. Neither had I 2 years ago, but what I've since learnt about them demonstrates what an amazing charity they actually are. They work with people who have been victims of sexual violence, ranging from the most serious types (rape) through to others which are growing in reputation such as sexting and revenge porn. Partly this is achieved using Independent Sexual Violence Advisors (ISVAs) who are specially trained and work independently of the Police to support victims and provide the best practical advice available. ISVAs also support victims should they choose to report sexual violence to the police, from the reporting itself through to any potential Court process.

SV2s 24/7 Advice Line has provided a lifeline to many victims of sexual violence when they are struggling to come to terms with what has happened to them.

SV2 also offers a counselling service to support men and women overcome the horrific trauma that is sexual violence. They enable these victims to shed that stigma and make positive contributions to their lives. To come to terms with what has happened to them and to support them in developing safe relationships in the future. Unfortunately, at the moment, SV2s therapy service is under real pressure in terms of funding as demand for the service is high.

Sexual violence is so often hidden within our society, but shouldn’t be. It affects not only the direct victim in a variety of ways, but also their family and friends. Its long term effects are potentially devastating if victims don’t get the support they need.

In running I hope to raise funds to support the incredible work undertaken by SV2 and to support them in continuing wit helping those affected by sexual violence.
