Story
We are a group of young people currently in our phase 3 of NCS (National Citizen Service). For our social action project we have decided to help the Canal and River Trust after a presentation we received regarding this underrated charity. The canals in Newark were once part of the Nottingham county council, but due to cuts the funding to help maintain the waterways was dropped. This meant that the canal and River Trust became an independent charity run by volunteers and part-time workers and all money for repairs having to be raise. Therefore the money that we collect will go towards restoring the canal and maintaining its historic beauty as well as making sure it is safe and accessible for all future generations wanting to enjoy the canals in Newark.
