I have set this fund up to raise money for my grandad (ray) who is a stroke victim and now has deep vein thrombosis (dvt) in his right leg.

11 years ago ray had a major stroke, leaving him in a resuscitation unit at Chichester hospital. After resuscitation he could not move any of his right side of his body and still to this day he can not talk or walk he can stand up but is very unstable and in a lot of pain. He spent 6 months in the hospitals rehabilitation unit after the stroke but failed to make much progress.

He also suffers from seizures, doctors say these are mini stroke's and can be common after such a big stroke, the consultant at the hospital has informed his family that he is unsure how long he has left, as the deep vein thrombosis is not clearing and the seizures are becoming more frequent.

His doctor has said that he is at high risk of having another major stroke.

He has worked all his life up to the age of 65 and then he had this big stroke. He had planned a happy active retirement, not a retirement of being trapped in his own body.

Unfortunately my Nan has not been able to care for him as much as she would have liked to as she suffers from arthritis in her elbows, wrists, Back, legs and feet, so they had to get private carers in to help.

Ray was always very outgoing, independent, kind and caring. He would do anything for anyone. He was also very clever, he designed and built loft conversions and extensions for friends and family.

He worked from the age of 16 operating cranes on building sites for several years, he then became a self employed driving instructor for many years before moving on to work for American Airlines in the management team based at Heathrow airport until aged 55. Ray then decided to become a gardener and worked for himself doing gardening which was something he always enjoyed as a hobby, he worked as a gardener until he was 65.

Sadly ray could not enjoy retirement the way wanted due to having this stroke. He had planed on going on a world cruise with his wife and visiting all the places they've always wanted to go.

I would like to raise as much money as possible to make his dream happen, as unfortunately the money he did have saved he has has to use for medical expenses. He is a great husband and dad of 3 and such a kind, loving grandad to 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. We all just want to see him happy again and give him what he truly deserves while he is still with us.
