    Story

You may, or may not, know, that Jazzy is a carer for her adult son who has autism. They live together.

He was receiving disability living allowance (DLA) to support them living. DLA is being phased out as a benefit, replaced with Personal Independence Payments (PIP). DLA recipients have to apply for the new benefit, which involves a face to face interview with an assessor.

Jazzy had a letter yesterday, telling her that he was not successful in applying for PIP and that his DLA would be stopped with immediate effect. They were dependent on this income to live - rent, food, domestic bills etc. We will appeal this decision and I think we have a good chance of being successful but until this can be done (it takes months), they now face significant financial hardship.

Jazzy is extremely worried about how they are going to cope and spent much of yesterday in tears. If we could help her out, it would make a big difference.

I accompanied Jazzy and her son to the interview they had, to give them support. We outlined clearly to the assessor the difficulties he has with day to day living, because of his ASD, but the report that has been sent back in no way describes his actual functional level. I understand this is common in PIP assessments.

Frankly, I'm shocked and ashamed at the way our country has started to treat the most vulnerable people in our society. Speaking as a health care professional, this was an entirely inaccurate assessment. We are going to fight this case to get them the assistance that any decent society should afford the disabled.

In the mean time, for every time Jazzy has turned up to events and gigs, and taken professional-level photos (usually in the dark) and then spent hours of her own time editing and sharing them, to make us all look great, please give what you can manage.

Obviously, anything we raise goes to Jazzy and her son.

    Thanks everyone.
