As many of you know I stepped down from assistant Scout leader back in 2016 in order to concentrate on my studies at Southampton University. Many of you asked me why I wanted to become a nurse... I think the answer of "a mid-life crisis" worked the best so I'm sticking with that! However, I've never been one for the easy life, so when I was faced with a personal development module to round off my 2nd year, the prospect of my first half marathon race seemed the only fitting choice. So I sat and thought long and hard about who I could run this for besides myself and the answer was obvious... My local Scout group! Both of my children started in the Beavers colony at 3rd Ventnor as did I as the Beaver Leader, later moving to the role of assistant Scout leader. Lucy is soon to move onto Explorer Scouts and Jack up to the Scouts. The group became a part of our lives and have been there for us as a family for many years now... I don't know what I would have done without them sometimes!! So, now its time to give back. The group wants to purchase a new rifle to teach the young people how to shoot and the importance of gun safety, something the leaders feel very strongly about and have even had members go on to represent not only 3rd Ventnor but the Isle of Wight in competitions! I will be taking part in the IOW half-marathon in Ryde on the 19th of August! Please help me give something back to the group that has meant so much to my family and taught us so many things in the ways of Scouting and having fun!!
