    Story

Over three decades Steven Shaw has introduced thousands of people to the joy and freedom of pain-free, relaxed, swimming.

His unique Shaw Method – applying the principles of the Alexander Technique to swimming - has transformed the teaching of this essential life skill.

In recent years, Steven – a keen devotee of yoga, meditation and holistic therapies - has noticed a growing number of neurodiverse people whose swimming needs are simply not being met by conventional lessons in public pools.

He was also concerned to learn that, since lockdown, there has been an unprecedented increase in the number of assessment requests and diagnoses of neurodiverse conditions.

As a result, Steven believes there is an urgent demand for more neurodiverse, specialist, affordable swimming environments. Below, he explains how Neurodiversity-4-Shaw, which is in the process of being established as a charitable organisation, can both meet that need – and become his lasting legacy

Event 24th September 2022 Vobster Quay

Objective: To raise awareness and raise money for Neuro-diversity Swimming Project NeuroDiversity4Shaw

Challenge: 60 people to raise a minimum of £60 Each and to swim continuously for 60 minutes

The funds will be used by a new charity aimed at promoting a health approach to swimming for children and adults on the Neorodiverse spectrum. The money could partly for bursaries to support learning to crawl sustainably but also to fund people to train as reachers in a Shaw sensory work in the water ( SSWW)
