Crowdfunding is the new way to raise money for a personal cause on JustGiving.
The Newport Community First Responders need a new vehicle – and Newport Rotary Lite has launched a major appeal to raise £20,000 to help get one.
The Community First Responders are volunteers who receive specialised training from the Ambulance Service and are called out by them when 999 calls are made from the Newport area. They provide a rapid local response before the Ambulance arrives. Their vehicle, uniforms and almost all equipment are funded by donation. A new vehicle for the First Responders will benefit everyone in and around Newport.
Newport Community First Responder Scheme Coordinator Russell Brooks said “We respond to almost all 999 calls to the Ambulance Service from the Newport area, most of them in less than 4 minutes. Time is critical for incidents like cardiac arrests and many accidents, so arriving ahead of the Ambulance has real clinical benefit for people in and around Newport. Unfortunately we are having to rely on a 10 year old 4x4 Volvo which is becoming less reliable and increasingly expensive to maintain. We are really grateful to Newport Rotary Lite for launching this appeal to get a vehicle fit for the people of Newport.”
He added “We need a minimum of £20,000 to buy a suitable vehicle and equip it properly – that should get us a reasonable second hand vehicle, but if we can raise even more we may be able to buy a new vehicle. The vehicle needs to be 4x4 because of the sort of area around Newport and the villages.
