Nichola started running only this year with partner in crime Ian Crozier . On Sunday 3rd December Nichola will be taking on the Lancaster Half Marathon to raise money to support Dave Makin.

I was inspired by Ian who earlier on this year did a fantastic job raising funds for David by running the Amsterdam Marathon - I'm not yet to marathon standards but hopefully I'll be able to raise some money and help David towards that £40,000 target!

Dave is 31 years old, and has recently had his full right leg amputated. Over three years ago Dave was diagnosed with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) following a knee reconstruction procedure. CRPS is a very rare condition that usually develops after an injury to an arm or leg, with the primary symptom being severe, prolonged pain in the affected area. When it persists beyond 6-8 months it usually develops into a lifelong chronic debilitating condition, with the only prescribed treatment being a daily cocktail of high-strength pain killers (in Dave’s case this was 54 pills every day).

For Dave, amputation was the only way forward and he had this life changing surgery in July. Now Dave’s battle really starts, and the cost of a prosthetic leg and other specialist equipment is expected to run into tens of thousands of pounds.
