    Story

My 85 year old father, Michael Charles Hancox, has instigated this fundraising project, he is a resident of Ashton Manor Nursing Home and has limited mobility due, in part, to Parkinson's disease.

"A short time ago Tovertafel demonstrated a Magic Table to a group of my fellow residents, the majority of whom were dementia patients. I was extremely impressed by the benefical effects displayed by a number of those who participated in the demonstration. A cross section of residents with varying degrees of dementia were asked to try out the Magic Table, all showed visible cognitive improvement, even after such a short period of using this product" My father's words and the main reason for his drive to obtain this product to aid his fellow residents.

Tovertafel Magic Table is an activity for people with moderate to severe dementia motivating them to participate in order to stimulate physical and social activity. Numerous activities, consists of interactive light animations that react to hand and arm movements, are projected on a table. The activities provide a vivid and positive experience, which not only invite the people to interact independently, but also provide invaluable interactionwith their peers, families and carers.

Ashton Manor, Farnham, is a well-run care facility looking after residents with a variety of needs with a high proportion of dementia patients, it is not classed as a Dementia Specialist so external funding is unavailable. Although a private run home, a minority of the residents are self-funding, so funds are assigned to the medical and nursing care leaving little surplus for large, life enhancing items.

Funds required are £7500, which covers instillation, training and a launch event which all those involved and financial contributors will be invited.

Further information concerning the Tovertafel Magic Table can be found on their website; www.tovertafel.co.uk

Sadly there are very few people who have not been effected by a relative or friend with dementia, my father saw how amazing this product was and I would like to stress he has full mental capacity so will not directly benefit from the table but is desperate to see one in use at Ashton Manor.

Please donate as much as you are able, thank you so much x
