I moved to Surrey after a life changing event and started my life again. I had to find new friends, a new job and a new life style. Before setting up my own business I worked in mental health and supported housing and saw first hand how bad things can be for many people if you just look a bit deeper.
House prices are expensive and everyone in suburban Surrey looks as if they have got it all together; but beneath the surface is debt, poverty, homelessness and a food bank filled with people on a weekly basis. It's easy to shut your eyes and pretend it doesn't exist...but it does.
At the point I decided life wasn't worth living in 2002, I found my faith which enabled me to learn to live again, and to want to help others do the same.
CAP (Christians against Poverty) is a Christian charity that shares the gospel at the same time as helping people out of debt. They are passionate about releasing people from a sentence of poverty, debt, unemployment and addiction. Working with the churches in the area they bring good news, hope and freedom to people.
Almost a year ago my best friend and her 2 daughters, my Goddaughters jokingly said we would climb Snowdon. Except we weren't joking! On April 28th all 4 of us will be climbing and I'm very excited about it...
So now I'm raising money to help CAP Mole Valley and if me climbing a mountain helps just 1 person work towards having a happy and debt free life, then I'd be over the moon..
Your donations will be given to the local branch of CAP to enable 2 debt counsellors to visit clients in Mole Valley and provide extra support in running future community events to encourage clients as they move towards freedom from debt.
