Our son, Niko Samuel Szabo was born via emergency caesarean on 11th October 2018. He had the chord wrapped around his neck twice and lost a minimum of 3.5 minutes of oxygen after birth, and started life limp and pale.

Niko was rushed to NICU singleton Hospital and spent 3 days on a cooling blanket. He then spent a further 8 days in Neonatal Intensive Care. The prognosis for Niko was initially very poor, with an expected outcome of either no survival or severe long term brain damage.

The baby we see in front of us today is a 5 month old chatty, happy, (loud) little boy. Niko is the one in a million, yet this can be the case for other babies.

The team of doctors, consultants and nurses at the NICU in Swansea are doing PHENOMINAL work every single day. In the unit we were surrounded by babies who each needed intense individual care, NONE of which deserved to survive any less than the other.

It was in this time that we realised the need to provide MORE of the fantastic work being done, to help MORE babies, in Swansea or wherever there is a need.

Gabby (Daddy Szabo) is running Newport Marathon 2019 to raise money for NICU to help more babies like Niko.

The money raised will go towards vital equipment for the NICU, including cooling blankets and any equipment Niko was in need of that there is a shortage of.
