    Story

The handsome lad in this picture is Nkosikhona (or "King", for those of us who suck at zulu...) He was a gumboot-slapping, music-blasting diva. One of those 'friends-turned-brother' kinda pals who knew just how to annoy us, make us laugh, and someone we could deep-chat to endlessly. This guy wanted to help those in need, and refused to let his tough upbringing stop him becoming the man he wanted to be. He was fiercely loyal, hilariously honest, deeply caring... and I miss him like crazy.

A few weeks ago we received the news that King had passed away in the most tragic way.

And when you hear news like this, it can be so easy to be bogged down by all the hate that exists right now. But maybe a better response is to use it as motivation to make the world suck less...

So in his memory we've set up a Nkosikhona Siebeko Scholarship Fund in partnership with Inchanga Primary School, South Africa. Working with the teachers we met when we volunteered at Inchanga, we want to identify a child (or children, depending on how much we can raise!) who are may be in financial difficulty, and who would benefit from a fund to help them continue with, and further their education. I know it's easy to take for granted, but the importance of a good education is literally life changing, particularly in this small townships like Inchanga.

We met so many children here who walked miles to this school to have their only meal for the day, so we know that somehow "choosing" a handful of children who will benefit from this feels impossible, and even a little unfair. But we trust the teachers who know these kids and their individual situations, and we trust their judgement to make the best decision to change someone's life for the better. King planned to go to university one day. Unfortunately, he never had the opportunity to do so. Here's hoping this will help make this a reality a that's a little easier to reach for someone who needs it.

"Helping one person might not change the world but it could change the world for one."
