Story
Dear DONOR, please give £1, £3, £5 or anything as you may desire to join us in the plight of thousands of South Sudan children and young people caught up the the politics of their nation.
I recently taught Nollsdac Pathfinders(children in our club between 10-15 years) about being an immigrant, a refugee or an internally displaced person. Being that all children are of immigrant parents from Uganda including myself. Of all crisis examples we looked at, the South Sudan refugee crisis in Uganda touched them all.
For the young people at Nollsdac Pathfinder club, videos and pictures of children having no proper clothes, shoes and toys seemed to be an absolute nightmare. They were moved by the horrible circumstances facing children and young female refugee girls living in resettlement camps around the world including Uganda where young girls dread the start of the menstrual cycle due to lack of basic toiletries such as a sanitary pad or tampons. To most girls the start of the cycle results into bullying, isolation and in most cases they are exposed to higher risks of reproductive health hazards as a result of using dirty rugs or clothes to absorb the blood.
One child sought to donate most of his clothes and shoes to support a refugee. His actions led to all children wishing to do the same. Another 12 year old felt so emotional about girls in camps who suffer isolation for having a menstrual cycle while a 10 year old chose to donate toys.
Please joins us to put smiles on every child's face in the Mirei refugee camp by helping us ship our donations. Please join us to empower our fellow female youth to manage the natural cycle so they are not be secluded from society by helping us buy re-usable sanitary pads that can be washed and used for 1 year.
