    Story

After the figurative dust of a turbulent 2016 has figuratively settled, one among many things is clear. While getting involved in the lives of others in a positive way is just as important as it has ever been, it is increasingly important to start doing the work. Calendar years may be discrete and neatly over, but the issues of education and emancipation and our need to face them are not. It is therefore that we ask you to donate to our cause.

We are Noraly and Jamie. Over the past year we’ve come to realize we were stuck in our careers. Some important but intangible thing was missing. After some deliberation and soul-searching it dawned on us. We want to be adding value to the lives of others.
We found a way to do so in a small Ugandan NGO. Women In Leadership Uganda tries to empower women and girls by providing education on different levels: not just English language, but also computer literacy, for example. Through programs like Teen Voices (a journalism project for teenagers) and a crafts project, WIL Uganda gives the women and girls a bit of independency and a chance to reflect on their lives and circumstances.

From the deeply held beliefs that language unites, empowers and enables to communicate and understand beauty, Jamie will be teaching English. Working on the Adult Literacy project he will get out into the community and organize one-to-one lessons with the women in Busembatia. One day a week he’ll be chairing a book club at a local school.

Noraly is getting involved with communications, employing her skills to promote WIL’s cause. She will contribute to the online presence of the NGO, and help further WIL’s crafts programme. The continuous need for the promotion of equality for the people of Uganda is dire.
Equipped with a camera and a knack for storytelling she hopes to raise awareness.

We ask your help in raising funds for WIL Uganda. The proceeds will go towards the Adult Literacy programme and the Communications programme.
