Story
If asked to point on a map where Guyana is, most people would not know. More importantly, the reverse question for a Guyanaese to point out where UK is, might be near impossible – this is compounded by the fact that 39.6 % of the population has access to the internet and the other 60.4 % are totally "internetless". I live and work in a ‘world’ where I simply could not imagine functioning without a computer of some sort. I want to change those statistics! I intend to do this by going out to Guyana, deliver IT equipment that I am requiring your help to buy and give my time to educate disadvantaged communities in order to literally provide the first step to the rest of the world for anybody who would like to.
I am a self-confessed computer head. I would not function at my best without one; be it in my job, my phone, satnav, car you name it. It is just ‘natural’ isn’t it. On 26 October 2017 I will be switching all that off – take my passion and my gifts to the other side of the world and change lives. Your money will help me to do this. According to my estimation; the initial equipment required to get this project running is: laptops (as many as possible); two projectors; 2 SDI reels; 4 HDMI to SDI adapters; 2 Windows tablets; 2 tablet to HDMI convertors; power cables, extension cables and cable ties.
To date, I have managed to source with my own money; a laptop, one Windows tablet and one tablet to HDMI convertor and need help to secure the rest. The big dream is to see a computing school being setup one day... In addition, during my time there, I will train some personnel who will then take over the running of the project. I will be working with a charity called OBCA – registered charity number 1104080. They already send aid to Guyana to promote other Charity initiatives that enrich that society. This is my ‘forever’ project to bring YouTube (and associated cat videos of course) and all things techy to Guyana. I would love for you to be involved in my journey and thank you for helping out.

7 years agoIt's been only two days since the post went up. I am astounded by the response. The money is great but I have also received physical computing kit. Over the next few days I will be configuring computers for eager learners on the other side of the world. Simple things like looking at a digital bible, being able to follow a sermon when people assemble, being able to use Microsoft Word and Powerpoint and who knows .... EVEN THE INTERNET (once I figure out the who to engage). I cannot thank you enough folks. I'm envigorated by your generosity!
