Not only does OHOB send aid to Syria, Greece and France, we continually develop ways to benefit the community by promoting real and lasting integration in a safe space. Our community project is an opportunity for local families with children to meet and mentor refugee families with children whilst providing workshops and activities to build skills.

What we want funding for?

We are looking to kickstart the project with this funding. All money raised will help with:

Workshops to support skills and development.

Travel and volunteer expenses

Arts and craft materials and educational play activities

Mini bus hire for external activities to support well being

Refreshments

Administration costs and space for the project

We aim to support the development of relationships potentially on some shared interests or a buddying system where families with children of similar ages can act as befrienders to each other.

Workshops are designed to promote well-being and personal development as well as integration and include: junk percussion, food sharing, printmaking, yoga and well-being, art therapy, cooking and art and craft sessions. We also endeavor to support trips together, share information and provide advice on how to access local amenities.

The project will enrich lives enabling participants to become more socially and culturally aware, feel more settled and allow personal friendships to develop far beyond the boundaries Facebook and social media. As a dispersal city refugees and asylum seekers will continue to be relocated to Plymouth, so the project is an ongoing support system to aid long term integration.

OHOB is growing organically and is entirely supported by local people and the community. This type of empowerment is the best way to build solid and lasting foundations of mutual understanding and integration and OHOB has now reached the point where funding is required work to continue.
