With the Christian charity Tearfund, I am going on a two week mission trip to Zambia between the 17th to the 31st of August 2018. Here I will be working with a team of volunteers, and we will be aiding Tearfund's partners, The Jubilee Centre, to support and provide friendship to vulnerable people suffering from HIV and AIDS, to educate local school children and run activities for them, and to support the local community.

64 per cent of the total population of Zambia lives below the poverty line, and this rises to 80 per cent in rural areas. It is estimated that over 350 000 people currently do not have access to a regular food supply. Extreme poverty is at 40.8 percent, and this has resulted in mothers having to cut down the number of meals for their children, just to survive. In addition, approximately 14.3 percent of adults carry HIV, and there are about 1.5 million child orphans, as a result of HIV and AIDS. One out of five children in Zambia have been orphaned by HIV and AIDS, and this has contributed to a mortality rate of 75/1000 children dying before their 5th birthday.

To help raise money for this mission opportunity, I am doing the Wilmslow Half Marathon on the 18th March.
