Story
We work in a busy A&E department at the Royal Oldham Hospital in Manchester. My friends and I are currently trying to raise money for a second blood gas analysing machine. This is a vital piece of equipment that we use to check if patients are acutely unwell with medical problems such as SEPSIS. We do this by taking a small sample of blood from patients’ vein or foot if they are children and babies, when they arrive in the department as waiting for blood tests can take time. The blood samples we take are analysed into the gas machine and gives staff instant results that may indicate SEPSIS and other life threatening illness, that may need treatment ASAP. We currently have one machine on the adult side of department . I would like to try and raise the funds for a second machine which will be placed in the childrens area. As the machine is currently on the other side of department from childrens area, at times the sample we take from childrens can clot before getting to the machine. As a result of this, additional samples are taken from sick kids and causing them stress. In addition, many parents will understand the importance of this procedure and the emotional upset it causes. Some of my collegues and I will be running the Great Manchester 10k Run on Sunday 20th May 2018 to try and raise some of the money. We are also hoping to arrange other events and activities in the future for you all to donate to the cause or participate. The current target is £3500 as i have been told the machine is between £3000 and £5000. Please donate what you can to this important cause, as this equipment will help to save many lives especially children.
Thank You x
