Story
Why One Love?
One of my first observations when I moved to Trinidad two and a half years ago is the disparity of wealth in this challenging country. Life in Trinidad is not quite the beach you all imagine from my Instagram! We have the 6th highest homicide rate in the world per capita - mostly due to gangs, drugs and guns. There are many families living in poverty and there is little understanding for the differently abled community.
However, our own experience here has been blessed. We had such a warm welcome and have fallen in love with this country.....So I started to try to understand the issues and look at how to help.
Last year I found One Love Trinidad. A small local chairty run solely by volunteers that relies on donations. In December 2017 Andrew and I got involved. We collected food items for hundreds of families in Trinidad, packed hampers and bought gifts for orphanages that care for differently abled children. Since then I have continued to work with and support One Love Charity, including taking part in this year’s Colour Run. We have exciting propositions on the horizon to expand our reach, but we need more support.
This Christmas again we are donating rice for 300 hampers and will be buying gifts for children at the Home for Disabled orphanage. Please donate to help us make this a memorable, happy Christmas for these children and families.
A little goes a long way in Trinidad.
What would happen if everyone cared?
About us:
One Love Charity (OLC) is a local registered NGO geared towards disadvantaged and differently abled children and families. The overall objective of OLC is to break the cycle of poverty and bring underprivileged children to an equal playing field. OLC works with select orphanages, schools and individual families. We rely solely on volunteers and donations.
Annual projects
Stationery Drive July/August:
Before the school term begins we’re collecting school bags and stationery for 200 children from less fortunate families and orphaned children. Funds will initially go towards support for this initiative.
Christmas Wish and Hamper Distribution December:
We collect food hampers for 300 disadvantaged families, orphanages, elderly homes and associations in Trinidad. Hampers contain 43 different food and household items. Which will help families have a happier Christmas.
In December we also collect Christmas treats/wishes for children in local orphanages. The wishes the children ask for are simple gifts eg football or nailpolish and often practical or essential eg clothing or sanitary projects.
A little goes a long way. Please help us to help children and families in Trinidad
