Story
During the summer of 2018 in June, I'll be travelling to South Africa on a university volunteering visit to work with Mnyakanya High School in KwaZulu Natal, South Africa. The purpose of this visit is a simple one - to enrich and enhance children's lives in various ways through sport. We may not speak fluent Zulu (or any Zulu at all!) and the kids of KwaZulu Natal may not know much English, neverthless, through sport, we will be showing them (and they will be showing us!) that no barrier, be it lingual, cultural, financial, etc., can stop two communities from helping each other grow!
During this visit, I, along with my fellow peers who'll be accompanying me, will be working with high school pupils to enhance their knowledge on sports, and run a leadership program to improve their leadership skills and hone them into strong, independent leaders. In addition to all of this, the most important aspect of the trip will be teaching them how to cycle (they've got to walk 2 hours back and forth from home to school and back everyday!!) and educating them on cycle management. My peers and I will be continuing and improving the work that the Bambisanani Partnership put in place 11 years ago!
I've chosen to be a part of this project because sport is a very dominant part of my life and always has been. So being able to spread this passion of mine to those in need and being able to positively impact not one child, but over a 100 children's lives in various ways through something I love is something I know I'll find extremely humbling and rewarding! A perk of course, being a travel junkie, this couldn't be a more exciting opportunity for me to see a new part of the world while doing something worthwhile.
The donations will directly go into funding my visit, however I've decided that 10% of each donation will be given to the Bambisanani Partnership charity to help improve the lives of the children of Kwazulu Natal in many ways possible!
