Meet Mac!
Mac is 6 years old and nearly 7. He has autism. Along with his autism he copes with ADHD and dyspraxia. He can not talk. He can, however, manage to communicate in many other ways and copes amazingly! He has alot of mobility issues but again copes brilliantly!
Mac attends a split placement for his education. A specialised one called 'Spectrum' in the mornings and his mainstream one in Galashiels called St Peter's in the afternoon. Both schools are brilliant with him and we are forever grateful to them.
Mac would like to raise funds so that St Peter's can have an I-Pad to use with children like him as an educational tool. Mac struggles to hold a pencil to write and I-Pads have apps that can help with his education but the specialised apps can cost up to £200 each. The I-pad is also a fantastic motivator to get Mac and other children like him to achieve other tasks.
Spectrum provides a specialised one to one education for children with autism and complex needs within the Scottish Borders and at the moment is situated in a portacabin in the grounds of Wilton Primary School and a classsroom in St Ronans Primary. A new purpose built school is being built in Earlston for them to move into at the beginning of next year. All additional funds raised from this will be going to Spectrum to help buy sensory equipment for the new building. An example of the cost is a 1m bubble tube at £545. They are updating their music curriculum and a new outdoor xylophone is £500. A Skoog which is a teaching resource designed for music making in special needs costs £200.

To help raise these funds Mac is going to climb an Eildon. For him to do this will be a massive achievement!!
