Supporting Brent Foodbank and helping local people in crisis.

In the UK, thirteen million people live below the poverty line.

The Foodbank is a project of The Trussell Trust a charity that works to combat hunger and poverty across the UK. People in crisis are referred by frontline professionals, and come to local foodbanks to receive food donated by the community. The Trussell Trust’s aim is to minimise and eventually eradicate poverty in the UK by not only providing people with food parcels containing three days-worth of food but also by providing additional help such as money advice and Fuel Banks through their More Than Food programme, helping people to break the cycle of poverty.

Across the country there are now over 420 Foodbanks and 40,000 volunteers.

Brent Foodbank opened its doors to the community in March of 2011. Last year alone they saw a 61% increase in the numbers accessing the service and they provided members of the community with over 3,400 3-day emergency food supplies.

Sadly they are currently needing to turn away valuable food donations simply because they do not have the facilities to store it. We are therefore undertaking a fundraising campaign on their behalf to raise funds to buy a Chest Freezer which will mean that they can accept donations of frozen vegetables and meats which are so needed.

Our staff have kicked off this process raising £400 from a recent quiz night. Our target is to raise another £200 from within the community which Paramount will then match giving us a grand total of £800 for the chest freezer.
