    Story

    Helping Amelia find her voice.

This is Amelia. She's a funny, smart & determined little girl who loves socialising & meeting new people.

Unfortunately Amelia was born Angelman Syndrome .

Angelman syndrome is a genetic disorder that affects the nervous system and causes severe physical and intellectual disability.

A person with Angelman syndrome will have a near-normal life expectancy, but needs looking after for the rest of their life.

Despite being unable to do a lot of the things you or I take for granted she's always got a smile on her face & loves to join in with her sister, family & friends activities.

But imagine you were with your friends or family & couldn't join in with the conversation or let them know what you wanted to do, or simply tell your family you love them. I've seen how frustrating this can be for poor Amelia.

Due to her condition, Amelia's speech is non existent , even though as a parent you can tell she is trying to talk no words come out.

Using a PODD book, a type of assisted communication device we hope this will give Amelia the voice she deserves.

We are looking to raise funds for the software so we can make a PODD book and hope to buy an electronic assistive communication device which will be quicker & easier to use & we hope will bring a greater vocabulary to Amelia's life.

Unfortunately as with most special needs equipment these things don't come cheap so we are attempting to raise around £1500 to cover the costs of the software & equipment.

Can you help Amelia find her voice?

Thanks for reading from the O'Neill family.

Wishing your lovely girl all the very best. My mum told me what a wee star she was when she met her at their house (a while back when David was home). I really hope this can help her and you all. X
