    Story

In loving memory of our beautiful mother, Patricia Verdon, who sadly passed away at the age of 56 on Saturday 14 July 2018 after being diagnosed with stage 4 terminal pancreatic cancer just eight weeks ago.

There is never an ideal time to receive such devastating news, but Mum's situation feels all the more tragic given that she had just left work and, together with our father, was awaiting completion of a newly built house and relocation to the North East of England to retire and be closer to their grandchildren. They had just sold their family home in London and were temporarily living with our grandmother.

Mum originally expressed the desire not to be in a hospital at the end, but after admission to The Margaret Centre a couple of weeks ago to help alleviate some of her symptoms, she changed her mind. The staff were second to none; nothing was too much trouble and they even allowed all five of us to stay by her side for the entire duration. Mum told us several times how safe she felt there and we fully recognise that that level of trust is not easy to build.

This is why we would like to thank The Margaret Centre from the bottom of our hearts and, in honour of our mother, we hope to raise as much as possible to allow their wonderful work to continue.

We sincerely thank you for any donation, however big or small.

Gary (Tricia's husband), Jessica, Lucy, Thomas and Melissa (Tricia's children)

The Margaret Centre provides care for people with palliative conditions throughout East London and West Essex. It has 11 beds for those in need of respite care or at the end of their lives, plus providing community care so that people can be looked after in their own homes. They support people to access specialist equipment and alternative therapies to relieve symptoms and help them to live at home for as long as possible.

We were overwhelmed by the number of people who came to Mum's funeral today and so touched by those who have shared such heartfelt messages and memories. Knowing the impact that Mum had on the lives of so many people is a huge comfort to us all and, whether you were there in person or in spirit today, you gave us the strength to carry out what we feel was the beautiful send off that Mum deserved. We are also incredibly grateful to everyone for your donations ♥️
