    Story

Hi - we're Nicci and Paula. We're friends, neighbours and we both have daughters at Ballycastle Integrated Primary School.

Never having run a race in our lives, we are making a big effort to run the 26.2 miles of the Belfast Marathon on 1 May 2017. We hope you'll match this with your generosity. Much-needed money would go towards two brilliant and very personal causes:

    1. to fund a new activity room at Ballycastle Integrated Primary - a multi-functional place where children could benefit from extended learning.

    2. to fund communication groups for children with Down's Syndrome, to support speech.

Here's more of our story ...

Hi - I'm Paula - mum to 6 beautiful children. As a busy mum I've always valued fitness & exercise. Our eldest daughter ran the Belfast marathon last year and as a family we went along to support her. I began to consider running the 2017 marathon. At the same time our school wanted to raise money so I decided I would run for funds! Coupled with the fact that I will be celebrating my 50th Birthday on May 2nd I figured it was the perfect challenge :)

So far we have trained to 16 miles and aim to be running 20 by mid April. I am not going to say its easy but after each long run I can honestly say it is 'one' of the most rewarding feelings I have experienced. If I can do it, anyone can!

Hello. I’m Nicci, mum to two fantastic girls - Anna who's 9 & Jemima who's 5. Anna has Down’s Syndrome. Jemima doesn’t. Both girls love going to Ballycastle Integrated Primary School – a mainstream school. Anna joins in with the same classwork as everyone else and her class-mates voted her School Councillor so she gives and receives a lot by being at this school.

When Paula floated the idea of a marathon during one of our runs (well, really they were a walk and a chat with a bit of a jog thrown in), it seemed like a great way to challenge ourselves and raise money.
No amount is too small so please consider supporting us. We appreciate you!

Oh my. A quick rough tally and I think - with online and offline donations - we have just topped the £1900 mark. Utterly amazed and overwhelmed by everyone's generosity. We'll post the final total next week. x

We did it!! More tortoise than hare. But we crossed the finish line after 26.2 gruelling miles just after a gang of smurfs. In 19 degrees. Given we had trained in snow, sleet, storms and mizzle, we were a little thrown to be THIS warm but the water stops were everywhere and the crowds were brilliant. My favourite moment was a beautiful downhill around the 15 mile mark with sweeping views of the city and my feet flying. Loved all your messages of support - they got us through the final hard yards. Thank you x

Fantastic news! As we get our kit ready and the realisation sinks in that the marathon is TOMORROW, we run knowing we have made our target with online and offline donations tallying up towards £1400. This is just fantastic. A huge and heartfelt thank you to all our wonderful sponsors! Cheer us on if you get a glimpse of the marathon on TV tomorrow. We'll be in pink running tops somewhere near the back ... channelling our inner Mary Keitany ...
