Story
I am currently a pupil at Culford School. We have been successful in obtaining a literacy grant of £1,000 from Better World Books to build a library at the Good News Orphanage in Malawi.
It will make a huge difference in increasing literacy and access to books in a very poor area where there are no community libraries and few schools.
Culford School has supported the Good News Orphanage since 2009. Our planned trip in 2017 will include visits to local schools, orphanages, and even a prison. In addition, we will work on Project My Girl and The Man Project, allowing us to deliver sexual health, respect, puberty and menstrual hygiene lessons.
Lesley Martin, Librarian, is delighted with the grant from Better World Books. She said: “This will enable the Good News Orphanage to maintain and develop their library. This will support children in their education, improve literacy and allow the wider community to benefit from access to books and information on essential topics such as health and agriculture, as well as reading for pleasure.”
As you can see, any financial support you can offer will make big difference to people less fortunate than ourselves.
