What is crowdfunding?

Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered charity.

The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.

Kids in the Middle

Many children get caught in the middle of parental conflict arising out of divorce or separation. Our contact centre enables children and parents to maintain their relationship pending longer term arrangements. In the last five years, we have worked with 300 families and 500 children.

Safe Outcomes for Children

We are an accredited member of the National Association of Child Contact Centres (NACCC) and our welfare and safeguarding procedures are independently audited.

There is no government or statutory funding for child contact centres. We rely on donations and grants but it is becoming harder to maintain adequate funding levels. Additional funding will help secure the future of our centre but we also want to provide more support for children and parents.

We are seeking funding to help maintain and develop our services. For example, we have recently introduced community contact so that children and parents can go out together on visits to the park, play centres or for a meal together.

A Safe & Neutral Meeting Place

Our centre provides a safe, welcoming and fun space for children and parents. We provide a range of toys, games, books, craft activities to help children and parents interact and enjoy their time together. All staff and volunteers are fully trained and subject to an enhanced disclosure check. We ensure that safeguards are in place to ensure that children and parents are safe when using our facilities.

What We Will Do With Your Money

We want to provide more support for children and and to give them more of a voice in the decisions that affect them by providing them with the opportunity to explore their feelings and emotions with an independent support worker. Children who have had an opportunity to express their views and wishes about the issues affecting them post separation describe feeling relieved and much less anxious. Our service will help children:

> Make sense of the changes in their lives

> Understand that they are going through a process that many people share

> Express the feelings that are common at this time

> Develop a way of coping if they are caught in the middle of their parents conflict

> Find ways of talking to their parents

We are also intending to offer a new programme to parents aimed at reducing conflict and improving communication. The programme also encourages parents to adopt a more child focused approach to making family arrangements.

Sophie's her own words...

We used to live in Nottingham when Mum and Dad were together. When they split up, Mum and moved me to Sheffield which was where my Grandma lives. I missed my school, my friends and most of all, Dad. Mum said she was trying to sort things out but it was weeks before I saw Dad. When i first saw Dad in the contact centre, it was a bit funny but Dad hugged me and we played Jenga. It was nice. I saw him there for a few weeks and then we had some afternoons out. Although I still missed him during the week, at least I knew when I was going to see him. Now, I spend some weekends with Dad and I think I might be able to go on holiday with him. Mum seems happier now and she says that her and Dad 'are talking' which makes me feel good.
