Story
Can anyone help me?
I don't want to invade our customer's privacy with too much info but they need some Biggleswade love. Lovely family with 4 kids from the other side of CBC area - have been homeless (from a private landlord) and are living without furniture in temporary accommodation in Biggs. They hope to return to the Dunstable area eventually. Unfortunately, you can't get any financial help with furniture until you get a permanent place - and 'temporary accommodation' can be a year or more. We don't think that's acceptable at Preen (they are sleeping on the floor) and have given them a bed each.
This is the important bit - when this happens kids really suffer. Their mum desperately wants to keep them in their schools on the other side of CBC. They've lost a lot already and continuity, their friends and teachers who know and can support them is crucial. To do this their mum will need to drive them to school every day. That's a 40 mile round trip, twice a day. She just can't afford the fuel with everything else that's going on. Preen can give them food (to help stretch her budget) - can we club together to help her with some petrol money?
I've been doing this for 15 years and have never made a direct appeal for money to help a client before. Making kids move schools for a year is the cheapest thing to do - for the parent and the powers that be. But keeping the kids in their existing school is the right thing to do for them. This is a mum who has gone without already to do this for her children and I am going to give her a tenner of my own money to show my support and admiration.
Since I posted this on our company Facebook page people have asked me to Crowdfund. You are lovely, lovely people. Thank you.
And thank you to the Headteacher for putting this family in touch with Preen when they thought all was lost. We know some really kind people.
Biggleswade to Dunstable and back, twice a day is about 400 miles a week! Any amount helps. xxx

7 years agoThank you so much for your kindness. There were tears when I told the family what you have done for them. I am going to keep the appeal open in the hope that we might collect a little bit more. The family have asked that we (Preen CIC) use any extra money to help someone else. I'm so pleased about that - today I tapped on a window of a car parked up near my home suspecting someone was living in it. They are. I don't need money - I can help him myself - but it reminds me that a small gesture is everything - be kind to someone today ❤😀
