Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered charity.
The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.
Memorials for notable female figures are few and far between. We want to do something to redress that by Crowdfunding for £70,000 to have a statue of Sylvia Pankhurst erected in Clerkenwell Green. We believe this will help correct the historical record as well as increase awareness of her tireless activism for causes including women’s suffrage, equal rights and peace.
Why Sylvia when there is already a monument to Emmeline and Christabel Pankhurst in Westminster? Sylvia's pioneering contributions to gender and class politics, her fight against imperialism, racism and fascism as well as her efforts as a peacemaker deserve recognition. A prominent memorial would go a long way toward increasing awareness of the unsung impact she had on the world we live in today. She deserves her place in history that has been denied for too long.
The site in Clerkenwell Green has been approved, and as it sits on the border of the City and the east of London it pays appropriate homage to the work she did to rally the working classes in the east end of London in an equality movement that was previously dominated by the middle class.
The City of London Corporation has provided a grant of £10,000 to get the project underway, but we need to raise a further £?0,000 to see the statue come to life. Please help and donate to the cause, every donation no matter how small will help us get closer to our Crowdfunding target.
