Story
St Mary's Battersea Pimms and Hymns event is supporting two wonderful charities. Firstly, the local work of the Katherine Low Settlement and to raise money for Over The Wall, a charity which provides life-changing residential camps for children with serious illnesses.
Katherine Low Settlement is a local charity that has been serving Battersea and the wider Wandsworth community since 1924. One of our services provides free English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) courses for local migrant and refugee communities, so that they can improve their English across the four skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing.
Katherine Low Settlement has a strong track record of providing ESOL (English) courses and qualifications since 1999. In the last 3 years we have revitalised and considerably grown our ESOL service. We had dwindled to just providing 2 sessions a week to about 15 students. In 2015 we secured funding from City Bridge Trust for three years (and now finished) which has been the foundation for our recent growth and success. We currently have more than 121 adult learners attending 12 classes each week, with a crèche for those learners with children.
Thank you for your support. We really appreciate it. Your donations will go towards supporting our qualified and experienced teachers, paying for volunteer travel expenses and staff in the creche. If you'd like to see our work in action and/or have a chat about volunteering then please get in touch with Aaron on 020 7223 2845 and aaron@klsettlement.org.uk and www.klsettlement.org.uk
Over The Wall provides free of charge, recreational camps for seriously ill children and their families across the UK. Our camps go beyond giving children a great week, they have a lasting impact. Every one of our camps is thoughtfully developed and intentionally programmed to ensure that, whilst campers are experiencing fun and adventure, our activities are purposeful and provide long-term therapeutic benefits.
