Story
The BOY, Olli, he's 11, he is sunshine and laughter, cleverness and math, penguins and more penguins, books, SO MANY BOOKS and music. He has a mind that is cleverer than anyone I know and works at 30,000 miles an hour.
He's also mentally unwell.
It's not easy to say. It's never easy to face, but it's a fact.
So yes, he is all the wonderful things boys of 11 can be and more (biased? Me? NEVER) he also has the other side of him, the terrified and hallucinating, the following me around from room to room, never stopping until 4-5am in the morning when his mind caves in and then start again come 10am if we're lucky. The screaming into an empty room while his body shakes 'THERE IS NOTHING THERE' over and over while he tries to convince himself. The refusing to leave the house, if we are able to convince him to leave he's convinced someone/something is gonna run him over. It's the sitting in the middle of the house, body tense and eyes screwed shut, fingers so deep in his ears it's damaging his ear canals, poised like a wounded terrified animal ready to lash out at moments notice because HE can see them, why can't WE? The constant phone calls and begging BEGGING the healthcare professionals to help us, the refusals from them and tears from us. The sitting in a blank room that's for storage with a couple of sofas as your son tells a stranger he wants to kill himself daily, just to make this stop. Hospital overnights and kind nurses begging and begging Health professionals to come and assess this broken boy just once, just 10 minutes, please don't make me send him home again. Leaving hospital no closer then you were 24 hours ago, except now he is calm.
Reassurance constantly 'did you hear that mama?' 'remind me again there is nothing' 'please shut the door, PLEASE PLEASE'. The breaking down of his relationships with his siblings and friends.
We have tried to access every available resource local to us, it all comes down to one place, the place he is under who won't even give him a Psychiatric evaluation. Who refuse to consider appropriate medication, knowingly prescribing psychostimulants knowing that psychosis should be treated before any other diagnoses. Complaints left, right and centre and trying to rack your brains as to who else can help. Tearful phone calls to charity's because they can't help except to send another email to the people who should again.
Wondering if today will be the last day and music stopping you in your tracks because a lyric hurts, this song could be used at his funeral.....
We have TRIED to access every avaliable help through the NHS here in the UK, time and time again we are told it's 'just ADHD, Just ASD, JUST Anxiety'
CAMHS won't change his medication, and today the last available resource for us to receive help LIED and said he couldn't complete the assessment and we needed parenting help and we have to pay for it. I wish i didn't have to resort to this, but today the NHS signed my 11 year old boys death warrant, today they told him the fact he was brave and admitted his deepest darkest fears to a stranger wasn't enough and wasn't important.
Please help us save him.
