    Story

On 15th February, cyclone Dineo hit the coastline of Mozambique, with devastating impact on our town, worse than we could have ever imagined. We were lucky to be warned and had a safe, low, concrete house to evacuate to. We woke to find 'our' houses destroyed - if we would have been inside them, it would have been catastrophic, but we were lucky. Immediately afterwards, the local people descended to clear roads, trees and dangerous infrastructure and teams of guys have worked tirelessly to make 2 of our houses habitable. We are so lucky. Those same people who have helped rebuild a house for us to move back into, are mostly without their own homes, that took them years to save and build. Whilst our Tofo paradise is getting back to a place we recognise and love, the surrounding villages remain devastated. Coconut and cashew trees - prime income sources - have flattened the homes of the few people who saved to build from brick. The majority of houses made of grass reeds and corrugated tin, are mostly gone. Our friends and colleagues and those working around us daily, have nothing, yet they have spent their energy helping us. We now want to help them. We have given away the tents, mats and chairs we had to our cleaner Jack for his family to use. But we would love to help fund the purchase of materials (already in short supply since 20,000 are without homes), to help those we know, build back. People have salvaged what they can - so it means most of our friends need roofs or extra tin and reeds to rebuild their homes, at the low cost of approximately £80-£100 each. Bricks are more expensive. But we would love to support at least 20 of those we know to repair the damage. Any extra can help recover the homes of their wider communities. If you would like to support us in our mission, anything you can spare is gratefully received. We will withdraw the cash ourselves and directly manage the distribution responsibly, and update this page with progress. Obrigada. Thank you.

Every amount helps and small donations go a long way in Mozambique so thank you thank you.. we have a list of 37 people to whom we will allocate a financial package. We decided to help more than to fully fund a few. This is what was requested by the locals. So we will start withdrawing the cash tomorrow and can distribute this weekend. Thank you to everyone supporting

Absolutely typical of you to actually do something about a situation rather than just say 'we should do something'. Good luck with the rebuild.x
