Story
Roy brought Joy to countless people and even during his long years of depression he still helped many with his wise counsel and crap jokes :-)
Hundreds of us loved Roy and have been devastated by his untimely death; for his family, however, this is made even worse by the brutal reality that funerals in the UK cost a small fortune and Roy's family are not rich people. I know they will probably be a bit annoyed with me for setting up this page as it might seem like begging, but I think it's obscene that Roy's funeral is costing £4000. and I know that Roy would be heart broken to see his family shelling out money they can ill afford only to have people waste hundreds and hundreds of pounds on flowers which Roy would rather see left growing in the ground. A few wreaths are expected and proper, but knowing Roy as well as I did I am 100% certain that he would prefer we dispense with convention and simply help his family out - we all enjoyed his music, his intelligence, his wisdom and his art, so let's pull together and do the right thing by contributing to the cost of a proper send off.
I've set the limit at £500 because as I understand crowd funding if you don't hit your target you don't get anything, but I'm hoping that we can actually raise at least twice that and thus help Roy's mom and sisters in this practical way at a time of utter devastation. If we spread the word far and wide and not simply rely on facebook, we can hopefully raise enough for a memorial stone too, because whilst Roy is being cremated, I persoanlly want people in 2217 to read his name on a stone somewhere and wonder about who he was. In simple terms, I don't want Roy to be easily forgotten So get your wallets out.
I'm pretty poor myself but If I don't set at least something resembling a decent example it would be a poor show on my part, so I'm setting the ball rolling with £25, but if even just 1 in 10 of the people who Roy brought joy to contribute £5 or £10 it will quikcly add up and we will soon reach the £500 target.
I originally intended to set this up a month ago but due to my own drama I have pretty much been offline for four weeks, the point of which is that whilst Roy's funeral is only four days from now, this page will be live for a month, so please spread the word; even if you are too poor to contribute yourself, please share this page with anyone you know who knew Roy and ask them to do likewise - and feel free to check back regularly to see how we're doing.
On the practical side, the site takes 5% as an admin fee and there is a charge of 1.25% on credit and debit card payments and 1.45% if you donate using paypal (these are for donations made in pounds stirling; rates might vary if you're donating in other currencies).
Once all donations are in - and I believe we have a month - I will transfer all funds directly to Roy's sister, and if we have raised enough for a memorial stone I will keep people updated as that becomes relevant.
Peace and love
Jason

I don't personally know either you Jason, or your friend Roy, but I've been friends with Bev for years. Jason, your recent troubles have been a lot to cope with, and I hope this little donation helps.
