Story
Hands off our Green Belt
Cherwell District Council has proposed development of several areas in the Green Belt between Oxford and Kidlington - the Kidlington Gap. The intention is to address Oxford's perceived "unmet housing need".
We oppose the proposal to build on the North Oxford Golf Course and the area east of the Banbury Road, between Cutteslowe Park and Oxford Parkway station - all Green Belt land. Both proposals would lead to coalescence of Oxford with Kidlington and be detrimental to the setting of the internationally recognised historic city of Oxford. Development of the countryside between the park and the station would have a detrimental effect on the open countryside, access to it and the setting of two Grade 2 listed buildings. This area also has no eastern boundary so there is risk of onward spread of development in future years towards Islip.
All indications are that executive housing would be built to meet demand from commuters to London; this would not address Oxford's unmet housing need.

7 years agoMany thanks to everyone who has supported the Campaign including those who have given us cheques directly. The Consultant has produced the first draft of the Response which we will be reviewing in the next days. We have had a first meeting with Layla Moran MP to express our concerns which we know are mirrored by groups in Kidlington, Yarnton & Begbroke.

7 years agoAfter intense lobbying by many groups Cherwell DC has extended the deadline for its Consultation to 10th October. This is excellent news as it moves the Consultation period out of the holidays. It gives us time to work with the professional expertise we are engaging to advise on the response from the HRARA and to provide you with guidance for your responses.
