Weʼve raised £5 to open a suicide prevention respite centre in Liverpool.

    Story

Did you know that suicide is the single biggest killer of MEN under the age of 45?

Recent statistics across Merseyside show that 10 people aged under 35 in Sefton killed themselves in 2014, 18 deaths in St Helens between 2012 and 2014, And in Liverpool, 39 young lives were lost from 2012 to 2014.

There are many reasons why someone may feel suicidal, often those thoughts will go. But we should never dismiss anyone with those thoughts.

We need to offer a helping hand, with an open-door policy, to anyone feeling at risk of suicide. This centre will be a discreet home based in or near Liverpool City Centre with easy travel access. We will offer a free 4-night/5-day stay, without any pressure, supported by volunteers who will offer an ear to listen to their thoughts and concerns.

This centre is not meant to replace any professional medical services, but to offer a short-term break/escape from home or work pressures.

Suicide is often justified by the idea of no longer being a burden on family or friends. Suicide is a very short-term answer to genuine problems and concerns in one's thoughts.

There is a similar centre in London, and we hope to work closely with them to learn any lessons and ensure that we are able to offer help to anyone in need.

Life will have many ups and downs, but there is so much potential for more wonderful moments. Help us ensure people can continue to live them.
