    Story

After an initial assessment today, for my son Jack (age nine) with a private Clinical Neuro Developmental Psychologist, they agreed and recommended that a full Autistic Spectrum Disorder assessment, Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) assessment, ADHD assessment and Sensory Processing Disorder assessment should be carried out so that he can have access to intervention, and the correct support and education to meet his needs. He is not just a naughty child, it is not just a phase, he will not grow out of it, Jack is not a child who has been badly parented or unloved … he is Autistic with added complex profiles, and does not understand the world he lives in.

So many of our friends and family have believed in us and supported us in so many unthinkable ways over the past two months, which we are so grateful for. Thank you all. With Daniel also being in and out of hospital, and also having another shunt operation in his brain, these have been the most testing times of our lives.

Last month, we did see the NHS Paediatrician which took ten months of waiting for and less than an hours of observations and discussion… for a child who has mastered how to mask, it was not enough. However, it was agreed that Jack was displaying “oppositional, impulsive and argumentative” behaviours and they would be leaning towards Autism and ADHD but they want another rigid questionnaire to be completed by me and school and another appointment in three months. Jack does not have three months – his emotions and thoughts can rapidly become so heightened that he gets surges of anger and frustrations because he does not understand what is happening; he becomes destructive, tries to run away, throws anything he can find, pushes anything he can over, shouts, cries and threatens or will even hurt other children. He says “when I get angry, it feels like someone else is controlling me”. Internal exclusions at school are now daily. Two home exclusions in four weeks. Talk of reduced timetables or a fixed period in another school. But none of this is right or fair, because I have been saying all year that I know my child is Autistic and none of those reactions will help him. We have learnt this as grounding him certainly didn’t!

So, I have found an independent private Clinical Neuro Psychologist, Dr Corr, who is able to carry out this full and indepth assessment of ten hours of consultant time including a comprehensive report for local services, health services and educational services. He will also act as the go between and hold discussions on how to meet Jack’s needs. He has been an established NHS Consultant for over ten years, CAMHS Consultant for over ten years and is also a University Lecturer. Jack’s conditions are extremely complex and he needs the best chance in life to meet his potentials. This Psychologist has offered to assess him in the next few weeks, and as so many of you have offered your help in whatever way possible, if anyone would like to donate, it would be very much appreciated and go towards a positive and bright future for Jack, giving him the right kind of educational provision he needs. He is not a bad child, he is Autistic. He is my little boy who needs help.

    Thank you x

Thank you all so much!! We cannot believe that 104% of the target was raised within 48 hours! We are blessed with the most supportive friends and family and we are so thankful that we can start to shape a future for Jack so that he can meet his potentials. Please could the anonymous donators come forwards so we can thank you personally too. Also, if anyone feels like they wanted to donate but can’t due to the target being met, well you can and any additional funds will go towards therapies, aids and training for us. Thank you.
