Mesothelioma is a cancer of the lining of the. lung (the pleura) which is almost always associated with previous asbestos exposure. It kills 2400 people a year (more than die in road traffic accidents) in the UK. Although more people die from mesothelioma each year than melanoma (skin cancer) it only receives a fracture of research funding. This ride is supporting a local charity - Avon Mesothelioma Foundation (AMF) which assists local patients with this condition by funding medical equipment and research aimed at improving quality of life and survival of patients with this form of cancer.
